Share Your World, 4/29/19

Share Your World is a challenge by Sparks From a Combustible Mind blog where each week 5 questions are posted to challenge your willingness to share yourself. Today’s questions are:

  1. If you could interview anyone from your life living or dead, but not a celebrity, who would it be and why?

I’d like to interview my maternal great grandmother for whom I was named. I met her several times when I was a very young child and was totally awestruck by her sweet nature, her quiet fierceness and her ability to talk to dogs and they listened and did exactly what she told them to. Amazing! She was a dog whisperer before it was cool. My Great Grandma Hill died when I was only 5 and now as an adult, there is so much more I want to know. I know she was educated but not how much. I know she married my great grandfather who I never met but I’d like to know their love story. I know she was related to Sargent York, the war hero, but do not know how. I always heard she was of Cherokee dissent. That she worked in the munitions factory during the war but which war? I never heard the entire stories and now that no one is alive to tell the stories, I am regretting not knowing enough to have asked the questions. She was one tough cookie and I am named for her. It would be really nice to have a better understanding of her life.

2. As a child, did you have a nickname?  Did you carry that with you throughout life or was it only in childhood that you used it?

As the oldest daughter in a family of 5, one brother older and 3 sisters younger, I was Sis. As we aged, the only one that always called me Sis was our brother whose no longer living. I miss being Sis.

3. Give us three words that describe you:

kind, positive, and tenacious.

4. Sneaking into a second movie at the theater (if you go to a movie house)?  Is that wrong or just harmless ‘fun’?

It’s wrong. But, at the price they charge these days it could seem like harmless fun or just getting your fifteen dollars worth.

5.If you had a time machine would you go back to the past or forward into the future?  Why?

Future! Definitely the Future. I want to know, always want to know, what’s happening, what’s planned, what’s changing. Not that knowing will change anything but it would really be nice to know ahead of time what the weather will really be like for the coming days.

What were you thankful for during April?

That April is nearly over. This month has been a whirlwind month with too much to do and not enough me to do it. I for one am so grateful it’s almost done.

  1. I don’t enter into such things as I already have problems to find the opportunity to write posts on my own blog. But I’ll have a think about the first question and maybe answer it for you, or/and in a post of my own.

  2. Thanks “Sis” for Sharing Your World! I’m glad you did decide to participate because I happen to think that SYW opens up the blogging community further. I try to find interesting or unusual questions to ask too. How interesting that you’re related to Sergeant York and have Cherokee roots! It’s sad that there isn’t more available history on your grandmother too. One reason that I believe journals are important. The person writing them might find them boring, but future generations will most likely find them fascinating! Thanks again for participating! 🙂
