Last night was the much anticipated Junk Gypsies Junk-O-Rama Prom Night in Warrenton Texas. Wow! What a night! The skies of Texas cooperated and the night was beautiful. People of all shapes, sizes, creeds and colors decorated the night with their bright and creative costumes and in general had just the best time ever, dancing, drinking and above all, celebrating being alive. The stars decorated the Texas sky and the rhinestones decorated everyone else. The more bling, the better and of course, cowboy boots are the footwear of choice.
The Junk-O-Rama Prom started years ago when the sisters Amie and Jolie Sikes aka the Junk Gypsies were sharing their love of vintage prom dresses and decided to dress up one night at the market and celebrate in a sort of tribute to a by-gone era when prom dresses were big, fluffy and full of pizzazz. So they collected a bunch of vintage prom dresses and convinced their friends without too much effort, I’m sure, to get all gussied in up these vintage prom dresses and cowboy boots one night of the Round Top Antiques Market. What started as a fun night with just a few friends and vendors one evening after the market, has turned into a much anticipated event each market.
Some vendors throughout the week bring in special prom type attire, others produce prom crowns and tiaras, and many, many vendors have rhinestone jewelry available for sale to adorn those wishing to sparkle all night long.
Last night we walked across the street to see the set up for prom and were rewarded with some really unusual costumes. Everyone is in a festive mood, the music is playing, drinks are available and most people will pose for pics because attending the Junk-O-Rama Prom is all about being seen. Groups decide months in advance what they will wear and coordinate their outfits. It is truly a festive atmosphere.
If you ever get the opportunity to visit the Round Top Antiques Market try to come for the last Thursday night and attend the Junk Gypsies Junk-O-Rama Prom held in the field at Zapp Hall.
