Are you ready for it? I am not. Today is Halloween and already this past month, there were Christmas billboards along the roadways, Christmas commercials on television and a request that all the antiques dealers at True North have our antique booths decked out for Christmas by November 3 for their big Holiday Open House.
I have to say, that some dealers have done an excellent job bringing in the red and green, blinging out their booths and festively arranging their wares.
Just by adding some twinkly lights to some pink depression glassware or filling a red gumball machine with sparkly beads, these dealers brought a Christmas flair to their booths. Other dealers completely changed their booths to all vintage Christmas….really impressive!
I know! I know! I have been in retail long enough to realize the Christmas shopping season never really dies in retail. The day you take down your Christmas tree is the day you get your first wholesale catalog for the next Christmas season. It is truly a vicious circle.
I don’t know about you but I really like having my holidays in order. I like order, I like predictability, I like slowing down to enjoy all the seasons and holidays in their own time but, I know that is not the American way. So, I silently protest. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Christmas. I collect vintage Christmas ornaments. I still want Christmas to happen after Thanksgiving. Maybe I’ll move to Canada where Thanksgiving comes before Halloween, then Christmas can take over the entire month of November and I won’t feel the need to protest?
